Research

The NTRI research program is delivered by a collaborative effort between clinicians, researchers and our partners. We center our projects around clinical trials, accelerating research processes for emerging technologies and developing Trauma Systems framework.

Research Areas

Allied Health

Allied health research drives evidence-based care, enhances patient outcomes, and fosters innovation in trauma care through improved clinical practices and quality initiatives.

Older Person Trauma

The Alfred Traumageriatric Service brings together multidisciplinary clinical care, collaborative research, and international advocacy to improve outcomes for the growing number of older adults affected by traumatic injury across Australia and New Zealand.

Innovative Clinical Trial

Trauma clinical trials are being transformed by technology‑enabled, data‑driven approaches that improve efficiency and research impact

Registry

The Alfred Health Trauma Registry and the Australian and New Zealand Trauma Registry are driving greater clinical and research impact through high-quality data, strengthened governance, and emerging data linkage opportunities that enable deeper insights across the trauma system.

Resuscitation and Traumatic Shock

This body of research has a focus on management of critical bleeding after trauma during the pre-hospital phase and during resuscitation in-hospital.

Spine and Neurotrauma

Our clinical research programs aimed to improve the current treatments and understanding of spine and traumatic brain conditions.

Thoracic Trauma

Our researchers place importance on the effectiveness in the delivery of timely lifesaving interventions such as pleural decompression.

Trauma Systems Development

Implementation of an effective Trauma System save lives, beginning with the pre-hospital phase of care through to the in-hospital setting. An integral part of trauma systems development is trauma research support.
