Dr Don Campbell is the Deputy Director of Trauma and Senior Staff Specialist, Emergency Department, at Gold Coast University Hospital. He graduated MB BS from Queensland University in 1987 and achieved Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine in 1997.
As Chair of the Gold Coast Trauma Review Committee since 1998 he has had a long term system development within the region, and has served on multiple other committees locally and Statewide during this time to advocate for the establishment of a level 1 Trauma Service in the Gold Coast area. He was the medical lead for the establishment of the Trauma Service at Gold Coast University Hospital in 2014, and maintains an active clinical and leadership role within this service. He has a special interest in trauma registry development, and the application to this to improving quality of patient care.
Dr Campbell is regularly involved in a variety of trauma education activities, including trauma simulation training within the Emergency Department. His primary trauma research interest centres on the use of viscoelastic haemostatic assays in acute trauma resuscitation in the Emergency Department, and has been co-investigator on a number of other trials.
