Clinical Nurse Specialist, Trauma Reception and Resuscitation (TRR)
Michelle is a senior critical care nurse with over 20 years experience in both Emergency and Intensive care nursing.
For 15 years Michelle was a clinical nurse specialist and clinical support nurse within the Alfred Emergency and Trauma Centre. She completed her Critical Care Course in 2001, and in 2006 completed a Masters of Advanced Nursing Practice. Michelle has remained active in the academic environment, teaching undergraduate and post graduate nursing students, as well as academic marking.
Her international experience includes teaching postings for the Sri Lanka, Health for the South Project, Teaching Hospital Karapitiya in Galle. This project involved a multi-modal educational program to initiate and train staff in trauma and mass disaster preparation and education.
In recent years Michelle has expanded in her clinical knowledge by working as senior critical care nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at the Alfred Hospital. During this time, she completed the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), Ventricular Assist Device (VAD), and Heamofiltration course (CRRT)
She is excited to use her academic and clinical expertise, knowledge and experience to develop and implement algorithms that will potentially prevent resuscitation errors, and improve clinical outcomes for patients.
