Trauma is the leading cause of death in the first four decades of life and the second most frequent cause of death in all age groups in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is also the leading cause of disability of young and productive members of Saudi society. The incidence of major trauma and associated fatalities in Saudi Arabia has increased over recent years with population growth, increased vehicle ownership and the rapid development of highway infrastructure.
King Saud Medical City (KSMC) is a tertiary teaching hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It has 1500 beds and is the largest hospital in the country. KSMC recognised that the increasing trauma mortality and morbidity are avoidable health burden which can be addressed through the establishment of Trauma Centres and Trauma Systems.
