Dr Rob Gocentas commenced work as an Emergency Physician at the Alfred Hospital, Emergency & Trauma Centre in 2000. He also had the role chairing several key Alfred Hospital Committees which led patient care improvement projects within the hospital: Chair, Alfred Division of Surgery and Clinical Support, Quality and Audit Committee; Chair, Emergency & Trauma Centre Quality and Audit Committee; Member Alfred Clinical Audit Committee. He continued his passion for reducing clinical errors and improving patient care as co-investigator on the Trauma Reception & Resuscitation© project that developed decision support software to reduce errors and morbidity for trauma resuscitation. As Research Fellow at the NTRI, he has recently been working on the development of a semi-automated pleural decompression device.
Dr Rob Gocentas is an Emergency Physician with over 25 years experience as a doctor and over 20 years working in emergency medicine. A significant proportion of his work at The Alfred Emergency & Trauma Centre relates to trauma resuscitation and the management of acute thoracic injuries. He has co-authored several publications and text book chapters on thoracic trauma.
Dr Gocentas’ research focus is on developing technologies that reduce clinical errors and improve trauma patient care particularly in relation to trauma resuscitation and the acute management of thoracic injuries.
