Trauma quality improvement programs are most effective when informed by quality data. The data source providing the most relevant, timely and high quality data is the trauma registry. Key stakeholders in the state of Odisha, India, have commenced the development of a hospital based trauma registry, collecting data on the demographics, injury event, injury severity, processes of care and outcomes of trauma patients presenting to several hospitals in Odisha, India.


Key Objectives & Outcomes

The local champion, public health specialist Dr Sanghamitra Pati, has used resources including the data elements of the draft WHO GACI Minimum Data Set for Trauma Registries to establish a trauma registry for hospitals in Odisha receiving injured patients. Pilot data collection has been performed and will be used to further improve the quality and sustainability of the trauma registry.
