Trauma quality improvement programs are most effective when informed by quality data. The data source providing the most relevant, timely and high quality data is the trauma registry. Key stakeholders at Aga Khan Hospital in Kenya have commenced the development of a hospital based trauma registry and are collecting data on the demographics, injury event, injury severity, processes of care and outcomes of trauma patients presenting to Aga Khan Hospital.

Key Objectives & Outcomes

The local champion, emergency physician Dr Benjamin Wachira, has used resources including the data elements of the draft WHO GACI Minimum Data Set for Trauma Registries and the Trauma Registry of the African Federation of Emergency Medicine to establish a trauma registry for Aga Khan Hospital.
