About Sharon O’Brien

Ms Sharon O’Brien is a Trauma Registry Nurse at The Alfred and the National Trauma Research Institute. She has completed a Bachelor of Nursing and a Certificate in AIS Coding. In 2010, she started working at The Alfred Trauma Registry as an AIS coder, screening, maintaining datasets & maintaining REDCap for the weekly Trauma Audits. With over 25 years of experience in clinical trauma care at The Alfred, she has also previously worked as a Clinical Nurse Specialist & a member of the leadership team on the Trauma and Orthopaedic Ward. Ms O’Brien has also worked as a Major Trauma Recovery Coordinator & has gained experience and skill in the management of Trauma Patients pre and post-discharge.

Ms O’Brien is also a part-time Research Officer of the Optimising Patient Outcomes Following Trauma at The Alfred Hospital under the BeFit project conducted by Monash University. Ms O’Brien’s passion & experience working in different roles within the Trauma Unit has allowed her to develop integral knowledge in many aspects of the Trauma Service.
